How To Talk To People About Things: Negotiation And Listening In Everyday Life
Thursday, September 12, 7:30 p.m.
107 Hall of Languages
Negotiation is about reaching decisions with people who want something different from what you want, or see things differently than you do, which is to say: pretty much everyone. This talk will help you get past the roadblocks that prevent agreement. You will learn to recognize the traps and misunderstandings into which stakeholders fall, especially when emotions run high. Glouberman, co-author of The Chairs Are Where the People Go, draws on research from many sources, including Harvard’s Program on Negotiation, and uses storytelling and humor, to explain the basic ideas of negotiation, and the importance of listening, in both professional and personal contexts.
